On the Road
by Irreleva Wu
After studying for 1 year with a top Chinese driving instructor, Irreleva Wu today brings you his top 7 handy hints for driving Beijing style.
Above:
Cars! Cars as far as the eye can see!
1 - If you see an opportunity to gain even a milli-second, take it.
2 - Don't pay attention to other drivers.
3 - If the lane next to you seems to be moving slightly faster than yours, pull into it with the minimal of signalling or warning (you don't want to let other drivers know about the advantage that you have discovered, lest they get there before you!)
3 - Pedestrians are softer than your car.
4 - If you notice that there is an empty emergency lane next to yours, pull into it and drive that way!
5 - Don't apply the brakes unless you absolutely have to, and only at the last second possible.
6 - Why not take the opportunity to multi-task whilst you are behind the wheel? It's an ideal time to apply make-up, call someone, change your clothes, have a meeting, or eat a banquet.
7 - Get the biggest and most expensive car possible. Beijing's traffic laws and police allow for bigger or more expensive cars to drive without paying attention to any laws or traffic lights!!!
