Guest column - Valentine's Day Round-up
Welcome to our new monthly section. In it we ask some Beijingers what they did on a significant day during the previous month. This time we look at some lovestruck Romeos and Cleopatras in the Valentine's Day Round Up.
Subject 1:
Barman Mike Walters: Mike, known as Mikey to his friends are this month and for many years now spending valentines day with his long-time girlfriend. Firstly of all for both members of this couple was a pleasant afternoon hand-in-hand slow stroll around the lovely scenery of Houhai lake and the bars and Hutongs (and Yangrouchuar stands) that surround the lake here. Unfortunately because of the fact that Valentine's Days invariably fall in February results in the consequence where the weather is cold in Beijing during this month and that gradually, and for both love birds, they too became cold and thus decided to pop into one of the many bars which surround the lake at Houhai for a warm drink to counter this there. They chose to pop into Buddha Bar as Mike had previously been to Buddha Bar in Shanghai and was fondly reminded of that happy time with some sense of Nostalgia Before heading to their dinner reservation they both decided to pop into home together to collect some warmer clothes for the evening that lay ahead of them. Next this couple headed straight to the restaurant via a quick trip to the cinema to see the Chinese film Valentine's Day. After dinner Mike and Laura decide to pop into the shopping mall at Wang Fu Jing wherein Mike buys a necklace for his girlfriend who is charmed by it. "All in all a lovely day" chuckles Mikey.
((Steve, can you just cut this short when you stick it up on the site? Whose idea was this anyway? Ta. - Arabella))
