Christmas is on its way, and we don't get any time off. But we'll still be watching a lot of TV. Here's some stuff to look out for.
We Have No Idea(BTV-2)
Festive travel show. BTV presenters travel to Western countries, where they observe the festive celebrations and make wild guesses as to what is going on and its significance. At no point do they bother to ask the locals.
Winter Solstice Special with Zhu Bin (CCTV-9)
Two and a half hour documentary on what a winter solstice is, complete with cartoony animations demonstrating why days get shorter and longer. Soporific voice-over by that guy with the faintly Antipodean accent who normally narrates the shows about ancient pottery and stuff.
Awesome BJ (HLJTV)
Teen drama originally intended for export to Taiwan. Two youths (one boy, one girl) move from Kaohsiung in Taiwan to Beijing, where they are constantly gobsmacked by just how much the mainland kicks ass.
Episode 3: After seeing the "4-D Cinema" in Chaoyang Park, Chen Luo has to sit down for a while and take deep breaths with his head between his knees. Meanwhile, Yang Yang is escorted across the road by a young traffic cop.
